Having been committed to the arts of presence for 28 years, the group famous for its ongoing research into the expansions of the body also saw its planning turned upside down due to the pandemic. Only in May were in-person rehearsals resumed with a view towards the choreographic play that would premiere in April 2020, in Germany, and was completely reconfigured, as well as the company’s way of working.
Dark Matter happens simultaneously, digitally and physically, with real-time broadcasting and editing. It is the first time that the group, restless by nature with the technology of movement, is dealing with programming language and software, forging an ecosystem that breaks linearities. “There is no mediation without noise,” says artistic director Alejandro Ahmed, who perceives vital folds in failure and fall.
An invisible body binds its appearance to the modification of other bodies in order to express its existence. New tools interweave presence, virtuality, archives, memory, and all kinds of energy transformation that flows from these contacts. They generate a multidirectional perpetual motion to integrate actions of text, audio, video, temporalities and spatialities through bodies that make the expression and crossing of the things’ life accessible over the course of movement.
