The dance artist is guided by the hands of the writer from Minas Gerais Conceição Evaristo, starting with the concept of “writivival,” the writing that is born from the daily life, memories, life path from the author herself, stressed by a collective experience. Emerging darkened journeys, Adnã Ionara narrates a dance that strengthens and gives movement to the roots she carries.
At the foundation of the show’s construction are the bibliography and the symbols connected to the Yoruban mythical matriarchy. The title from the same origin encompasses different translations and interpretations. Imalẹ̀ echoes the sacred: a symbol and place for the perpetuation of the ancestry. Inú, the inside, the private, or the entrails themselves, like the womb and the stomach. Ìyágbà, in its turn, means ancestral woman, the matriarch.
“The work is born as a femhomage [acknowledgment] to the maternal ties, a type of speech, reminder (or would it be a recelebration?) of the vital force nurturing an entire family lineage: Ìyá, the Mother”, the interpreter-creator considers, who also has biographic and memory traces
