An image from 2016 cannot get out of the dancer’s head to this day. The blood on the sidewalk, the sharp smell, and all those dissected fish made him halt while walking through the streets of Ribeira neighborhood in the capital of Rio Grande do Norte State.
“That scene got me”, recalls Alexandre Américo, who found himself thinking about humanity and other living beings. “Why didn’t I feel any compassion for the fish massacre?”
This questioning is one of the scales of the mixed live solo film, guided by the feeling and attitude of solitude, a condition of voluntary and positive isolation contrasting with the advent of the so-called social distancing imposed by the pandemic.
The artist and dance researcher turns the venue into an aquarium of archive captures that interweave aesthetic experiences in different times and formats. There are records of practices from 2018, rehearsals from 2020, and underwater shots from this year, in which the camera takes the subjective look.
The audience is offered a scenic dive where the space-time relationship of what could be a goldfish, possibly deserving of embracement, is not lucid.
