Videos that invite you to discover books talking about dance in its different spheres. Through the context in which they were created and their particular poetics, the book dances. The videos will be broadcast on Instagram and on Sesc Dance Biennial website.
1) Viço Manco Voo (Lame flight) by João Paulo Lima
”A book that has a long way to go to complete the poem of passion or love or denunciation. It limps on purpose. It uses the word to cripple all the legs and break the rhythm” (João Paulo Lima).
2) O livro das Envultações (The Book of Envultations) by Alana Falcão and Leonardo Cordeiro
“O Livro das envultação” by Alana Falcão and Leonardo Cordeiro invites four more artists (Inaê Moreira, Neemias Santana, Melissa Figueiredo and Denny Neves) to experience a dance in which
“Each body is a constellation of bodies”. The artists’ intention is for the book to be experienced as a dance, as a body that moves between appearances and disappearances of words, images and sensations. In its audiobook version, it aims at dances that only happen when heard and imagined; a kind of cinema that is only seen with open ears and closed eyes.
3) Historiografia da dança: teorias e método (Dance historiography: theories and methods) (Organization: Rafael Guarato)
“A change in costume does not necessarily imply a change in mannequin. Recent research proposals in the history of dance in Brazil fall far short of what they claim, reinforcing old forms of legitimization and distinction (Rafael Guarato)
4) Acordar o Chão: dramaturgias em danças contemporâneas negras (Waking the Ground: dramaturgies in contemporary black dances) (Organization: Kanzelumuka and Murilo De Paula)
“Because we recognize the relevance in the development of a critical and poetic thought about the dramaturgies produced for dance and, more specifically, for dances made by black artists, rooted and referenced in Afro-diasporic and Amerindian cultures, that is what inspired and instigated us to organize this publication” (Kanzelumuka and Murilo De Paula)
5) “Traços da Memória da Dança Contemporânea em Salvador” (Memory Traces of Contemporary Dance in Salvador) (Conception and organization: Eliana Pedroso)
“The performances generate emotions that travel at the rhythm of time and advance over the audience to propose a dialogue of sensibility and senses. The catalog is a small draft of a decade, which pays tribute to all those who dedicate themselves to the craft of making art” (Eliana Pedroso)
